Get Cooking

With pots and pans at the ready, two Air Cadet teams from 134 (Bedford) Squadron headed off to their kitchens to compete in a cooking challenge. Their task; to cook and serve a three course meal for the annual 'F-Word' night.

Both teams set straight to work on their starters, each team needing to produce a plate of food per course which would then be judged by the ever hungry Squadron staff. The table cloth freshly ironed, the table was set, before the Squadron staff were invited to take their seats for a plate of grilled potatoes in bread crumbs, by Vulcan Flight followed by a plate of Nachos topped with cheese and salsa by Victor Flight. The scores for this course were recorded.

The main course was promptly brought by the two waiters; an exceedingly spicy piri piri chicken with mixed vegetable salad produced by Victor Flight and pasta with bacon produced by Vulcan Flight was served.

Finally, for pudding, Vulcan Flight had made pancakes with pistachio ice cream whilst Victor Flight had made chocolate brownie towers with cream. The plates were finished and the scores for the food were totaled.

As if being tasked to cook a three course meal wasn’t a difficult enough task, the cadets had also been asked to provide a short piece of entertainment for the dining staff. Victor Flight performed a '134 Rap' which was well received and prompted an encore. Vulcan Flight produced a short skit titled 'Mario Karts – The Deleted Scenes.'

Once everything had been washed up the cadets assembled for the final scores to be announced with first place being awarded to Victor Flight.

Sgt Shawl, who had lead Victor Flight to its ultimate success said, “It was a great evening of teamwork for Victor Flight. Well done to all of the cadets for putting in so much effort on the night.”
