Eight cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron participated in a Wing Shoot held at RAF Honington where both the L98A2 (Cadet General Purpose Rifle) and the L81A2 (Cadet Target Rifle) were used.
In total, 30 cadets from Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing attended and twelve were trained on the L81A2 including the eight from 134 (Bedford) Squadron.
After training and to check competence, each newly qualified cadet fired ten rounds at 25 metres. The L81A2 is normally fired at long range distances of between 300 to 800 yards and the next planned Wing Shoot will be held at Middlewick Long Range with the L81A2.
Flt Lt Murad, Officer Commanding said, "The Air Training Corps participates in the Inter-Services Cadet Rifle Meet (ISCRM), a National Competition held annually and it is my intention for 134 Squadron to represent the Corps in 2014. The high standard of weapon handling and skill that the Squadron has attained on the different weapon types offered by the Corps, will stand us in good stead."
Cdt Woodward (14), remarked, "The Cadet Target Rifle is extremely accurate and has a lot in common with the No8 Rifle that we fire at the Squadron Headquarters. I am really looking forward to my first long distance shoot and potentially going on to represent up to Corps on the L81A2 Rifle."
