Soaring The Skies

Cadets Rhys Barton (13), Lewis Holly (14), George Livingstone (14) and Stan Maguire (14) enjoyed a classic Spring day gliding with the Four Counties Gliding Club based at RAF Wittering. Together they achieved over 100 minutes of circuits and soaring. The day also involved operational aspects of post landing recovery, connecting the winch cable, maintaining level wings whilst launching and learning the signals required for launching gliders into the skies. Some even experienced the operation and view from the winch house.

Flt Lt Khalid Murad, Officer Commanding said, "This was a great day, with excellent weather, for learning the basics of soaring in a glider, using the lift gained from thermal air currents. The cadets gained much knowledge and experience, especially from the ground work, that would stand them in good stead when they went on to gain the gliding awards recognised by the Corps."
