Despite cold and snowy conditions, cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron braved the elements to hone their marksmanship skills with the L98 A2 General Purpose Cadet Rifle and L86 A2 Light Support Weapon.

On average, the unit shoots once a month on the Barrack Range, located at the Defence Intelligence and Security Centre Chicksands, Bedfordshire. Determined to train, even in the most arduous of conditions, the cadets wrapped up warm and enjoyed a busy day of target shooting.

The cadets from Bedford were joined by colleagues from two neighbouring Squadrons, 73 (Huntingdon) and 2465 (Oakley) some of whom had never fired at the Chicksands range before.

During the day the cadets were able to shoot at 25 and 50 metres participating in grouping, snap and rapid practices at a number of different targets. Whilst it was cold, the cadets were able to develop their individual marksmanship skills, refresh weapons handling skills and experience shooting under testing conditions.

Warrant Officer P Taylor, the Range Conducting Officer said, “Shooting within the Air Cadet Organisation is an all-weather activity come snow, rain and shine. We were well prepared for the day and our cadets thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of operating in snowy conditions. The ability to shoot well despite the weather will serve the cadets well as they prepare to gain marksmanship qualifications and participate in future competitions.”
