Bronze Success

Seven cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron have spent their half term completing the expedition section of their Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award. The team comprising of Cadets Nathan Turpin(15), William Cohen(14), Jordan Williams(15), William Woodward(15), Levi Jack(14), Caleb Masih(14) and Leonie Gomes(14), put their navigation, teamwork and decision making skills to the test in North Bedfordshire, culminating in a two day expedition, including one overnight camp.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is targeted at youths between 14-25 years. In addition to the full range of cadet activities, these seven young people have been focusing on volunteering within the community, learning a skill and developing physical fitness. The successful completion of the expedition section has seen them complete their full award.

Cdt William Woodward who was part of the team commented, “The expedition was good fun and we got a lot of walking done. The conditions were good on the first day but cold on the second morning, so it was a struggle to get started. I feel I have learnt and developed new skills and I hope to use them on my Silver Expedition”

The cadets are now focussing to progress onto the Silver level of the award and plans are already underway for an expedition to the Peak District in July.
