134 (Bedford) Squadron |
Whilst many busied themselves with their own preparations for Christmas, a dedicated team of cadets and staff from 134 (Bedford) Squadron rolled up their sleeves and set about raising funds for the unit through 5 days of bag packing.
Working over the two weekends leading up to Christmas Day the cadets packed shoppers bags at Marks and Spencer in Bedford Town Centre and Morrisons Supermarket in the nearby town of Shefford.
As in previous years, the cadets were managed on the shop floor by the Squadron’s cadet NCO team and supervised by the adult staff cadre.
By Christmas Eve, the hard work and dedication of the whole team became apparent, when it was revealed that the Squadron had successfully raised a total of £6,135.
These hard earned funds will be put to good use throughout 2013 supporting the unit’s two vehicles, purchasing new equipment and funding a number of important training activities.
Aside from raising funds, the Squadron maintained the positive image of the Air Cadet Organisation and RAF family in the public eye, tested its cadet NCOs in a real life leadership role an improved the cadets’ interpersonal skills when dealing with the great British public.
Flight Lieutenant Khalid Murad, Officer Commanding 134 (Bedford) Squadron said, “The team, cadets, staff and civilian committee, have yet again delivered for the Squadron and ensured that the unit is financially secure as we head into 2013. This is a truly fantastic result, well done. I cannot thank Marks and Spencer, Morrison’s and the public of Bedfordshire enough for all their tremendous support in this venture the generosity shown towards us is overwhelming. We now enter 2013 fully prepared to face the many exciting challenges offered by the Corps.”
