The recent annual awards evening at 134 (Bedford) Squadron saw the cadets take to the stage for a series of entertaining sketches and videos before the stage was cleared for the presentation of the awards.
Held at DISC Chicksands, the first half of the evening the cadets provided entertainment with a series of short sketches highlighting the lighter side of squadron life, this was interspersed with videos produced by FS Bell and Civilian Instructor Andy Marshall.
After a break the cadets nervously formed up for the presentation of the awards.
The first award, The Media Communications and Public Relations Trophy presented Squadron Leader Wiggins went to FS Jonathon Bell for his tireless work which includes creating videos, taking photos and assisting with the maintenance of the Facebook and YouTube sites.
The Squadron Sports Cadet of the Year was presented by Wing Commander Bower to Sgt Luke Denham, who in the past year as among other achievements received Wing and Region blues for competing in and captaining the Central and East Region rugby team.
Squadron Leader Kelly awarded the Squadron Academic Shield to Cpl Robert Goates who received the highest grades in the squadron this year, earning 67 points out of 75 in his classifications exams.
Next was the turn of the Mayor of Bedford, Dave Hodgeson to award the Leadership Trophy to FS Jonathon Bell. Jonathon had led the Squadron Drill team through the Wing and regional competitions. He had previously received the Regional Drill best NCO, and also led the winning flight at Easter camp.
Flt Lt Murad now took to the stage to award the Squadron Commanders Shield, which he presented to Cdt Will Nicholls for the hard work and dedication he demonstrated especially during the Cadet Inter Service Skill at Arms Meeting (CISSAM) shooting competition and Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions.
The final and most coveted award of the evening was the Squadron Cadet Of The Year, presented by Lt Col Peebles. A nervous hush filled the room as the gold envelope was opened to reveal the winner - Sgt Luke Denham who has impressed the staff team with his continued hard work in the Squadron.
