Riverside Blues

With over a third of million people attending the Bedford River Festival Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron seized this golden opportunity to represent the Air Cadet Organisation to the public at large.

The recruiting stand and team, ready for the crowds

The Bedford River Festival is a premier attraction in the East of England and was held in Bedford over the weekend of the 12th and 13th July 2008.

The Squadron's new black and silver recruiting signs, with the typhoon styled soap box racer looked fantastic

Working in partnership with the Royal Air Force Careers Office at Cambridge, the Royal Air Force Regiment Presentation Team and the Tornado Maintenance School from RAF Marham, the Squadron set up an eye catching and informative recruiting stand.

The Crowds

Young an old alike were able to see the unit’s Typhoon Soap Box, representing project work and adventure within the Corps and Field Gun used in pioneering and leadership training. For a more detailed view of the organisation, individuals were able to watch the Squadron’s recruiting video and speak with Cadets about their shared experiences.

The Cadets worked hard over both days of the festival talking to potential recruits and assisting their Royal Air Force peers.

Chiltern Radio popped across to interview Cdt FS Denham and Cdt Sgt Tye

The highlight for many was a flypast by the Spitfire and Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight which added significantly to the public interest in the light blue corner of the festival.

Flt Lt Mark Robinson, Officer Commanding 134 (Bedford) Squadron said, “We were delighted that the RAF Careers Office specifically requested our support at this prestigious event and allow us to present the Air Cadet Organisation to so many people from all over the country.â€
