Flight Fantastic

Four Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron were given the opportunity to take to the skies in the Vigilant T Mk1 motorised glider during a recent visit to 616 Volunteer Gliding Squadron based at Royal Air Force Henlow, Bedfordshire.

The Cadets attended RAF Henlow on Saturday 5th April 2008, which has been the home of 616 Squadron since the 1950’s. As one of the few remaining grass runway airfields in the Royal Air Force, Henlow offers excellent facilities and many Cadets from the Squadron have gained their gliding wings having trained there.

Cadets Bhagran, Blake, Luck and Powell were all able to take the controls during their introduction to gliding and experience the excellent handling of the Vigilant glider.

The Cadets were able to catch up with their colleague Cadet Scott Pickering, 16 yrs, who is currently undertaking his Air Cadet Gliding Scholarship with a view to going solo in a few weeks time.

Cadet Bhagran, 13 yrs, having experienced his first glider flight, said, “It was fantastic, I took the controls and was able to pilot the glider all by myself”.
