It certainly was a ‘Good Friday’ for Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron when they packed bags for shoppers at their local supermarket over the Easter holiday.
14 Cadets and Staff from the Squadron attended Sainsbury’s in Kempston, Bedfordshire, on Friday 21st March 2008, to raise much needed funds for their unit.
Under the supervision of Cadet Sergeant James Tye, 19 years, the Cadets worked within the supermarket from 8am until 4pm. The Squadron has packed shopping bags within the store for a number of years and has developed an excellent rapport with staff and customers alike.
At the conclusion of the day the contents of the Cadets individual buckets were counted and the total raised amounted to an impressive £998.02.
Sergeant James Tye said, “Once again we have raised a significant amount of money to assist us in the running of our Squadron. Our cadets work hard and throughout the day I received lots of compliments about their behaviour from members of the public.”
Warrant Officer Taylor who also attended the event said, “I cannot thank Sainsbury’s enough for once again allowing us to work inside their store. Running the Squadron costs a lot of money and this additional funding will help us deliver a busy summer programme of activities to our cadets.”
The Squadron hopes to return to the store in December for its annual Christmas fundraising event.
