Taking advantage of the unseasonably good weather 12 Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron have been practicing their marksmanship skills on the Barrack Range at the Defence Intelligence & Security Centre Chicksands, Bedfordshire.
On Sunday 10th February 2008, under the supervision of Warrant Officer Taylor the Cadets spent the day practicing for their Squadron and Wing Marksmanship awards before they are put to the test on their next range day in early March
For two of the Cadets, Jonathon Bell, 13 yrs, and Matthew Stringer, 15 yrs, it the first time they had ever been shooting with the Air Cadets. Having recently joined Bedford Squadron they were invited to the Range Practice to further their recruit training and introduce them fully into Squadron life.
Using the No 8 .22 rifle the Cadets practiced their grouping, snap and rapid drills at a range of 25 metres. The results are promising and it is hoped that a number of the Cadets will gain awards the next time they shoot.
Warrant Officer Taylor said “We had a great day, the weather was great and the cadets worked hard to improve their individual shooting skills. We are developing some good shots and I hope that they will qualify for Squadron and Wing awards next time we are on the range.”
