In a League of Their Own

Three Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron have participated in the inter Wing Junior Rugby Competition and earned ‘Wing Blue’ Awards for their efforts.

Representing the Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire Wing of the Air Training Corps at Royal Air Force College Cranwell, Lincolnshire, on Sunday 27th January 2008, the Cadets competed against other Wing Teams from the Central and East Region.

For Cadet Ashley Arzu, 14 years, this was the first time that he had represented the Wing in a sporting event and as a result he gained his very first Wing Blue. Playing alongside him from the Squadron were Cadets Thomas Powell, 15 years, and Jake Riches, 15 years. Cadet Powell gained his second Wing Blue and Cadet Riches his third.

Cadet Powell’s talents on the pitch were recognised and he was selected to go forward to the Regional Trials where it is hoped he will gain a place in the Regional Team.

Warrant Officer Taylor said, “The Squadron is very proud of these cadets, they are a credit to the Wing, the Squadron and themselves. Supporting the Wing is very important to us and we are delighted that Cadet Powell now has the chance to gain a place in the Regional Team and hopefully go on to represent the Region.”
