Wave of Success

Seven Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron have gained their Advanced Swimming Competence Certificates following an assessment at Robinson Pool, Bedford.

The swimming tests were held on Monday 17th December 2007. The Cadets were required to enter deep water by a straddle jump, swim 300 metres using recognised swimming strokes, swim 20 metres to a conscious casualty in 20 seconds or less and carry out a rescue, retrieve an object from the deepest part of the pool and tow a casualty and to finish swim 50 metres in 60 seconds or less.

The successful Cadets were, CWO Esther Russell, 19 yrs, Sergeant’s Sean Denham, 16 yrs, Michael Every, 17 yrs, James Tye, 19 yrs and Cdt’s Nicholas Every, 14 yrs, Leah Gilbert, 16 yrs, Alex McKeegan, 16 yrs. 

Examining the Cadets was Civilian Instructor Julia Croft, an Amateur Swimming Association Teacher (swimming) and Club Coach (swimming) and a member of the Bedford Squadron staff. 

Certificates were presented to the Cadets by Flt Lt Mark Robinson, Officer Commanding 134 (Bedford) Squadron, on Monday 7th January 2008.

Mrs Croft said "The Air Cadet Swimming competences ensure that cadets develop both personal survival and basic rescue techniques. It is very pleasing to see that our cadets have understood the importance of these skills and have invested so much effort in achieving these awards"
