Weapons Safe

Shooting is one of the most enjoyable activities Air Cadets can undertake, but to use weapons safely cadets have to be trained to handle weapons correctly and pass a rigorous proficiency test every 12 months.

With these criteria in mind 14 Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron completed a weekend of weapons training on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October 2007, at their Headquarters in Bedford.

For some it was simply a case of re-qualifying their weapons handling tests on the No8 and L98 cadet rifles, for others it was a completely new training experience.

The Squadron is fortunate in having two Range Qualified staff that deliver regular weapons training days and organise monthly range practices.

The units Civilian Committee provided two sumptuous meals adding greatly to the weekend and ensuring that all those in attendance were fed and watered.

The hard work of all those involved in the weekend will be put to good use on Saturday 27th October 2007, when the Squadron will be holding its next range practice, the first of many over the run up to Christmas.

Warrant Officer Taylor who ran the weekend said, “We pride ourselves on the skills and abilities of our Cadets when in comes down to weapons handling. The weekend was a complete success and all those who attended will be able to go on a shoot in the near future.”
