On A Roll

On the 23rd September, a team of 7 girls from 134(Bedford) Squadron competed in the inter-squadron netball competition. After an exhilarating day, the team came out on top winning the gold medals and the well deserved trophy.

From the team Cadet Leah Gilbert, 16 and Cadet Warrant Officer Esther Russell, 19 were chosen to take part in the final trials that took place on the 5th October to decide the final ten of the Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing netball team.

After the final trials, the resulting Wing Team was read out with Cadet Warrant Officer Russell and Cadet Gilbert being selected.

The Regional competition was held on the 7th October, at RAF Cranwell. Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Team started the day well by winning their first match 4-1. As the day went on, Beds & Cambs Wing kept their heads high as they came away with a draw and 3 loses. The team played well together against some tough competition.

The day drew to a close as both the Boys Open Hockey team and the Girls Open Netball team came in 5th place overall, but with a number of members from both teams being selected for the Regional trials. Cadet Gilbert was one of the Netball team to be selected.

This is now the third year in a row that Cadet Gilbert has represented Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire Wing for open netball. After a day of extremely good skill and play both cadets had succeeded in upping their Wing Blue tallies, Cadet Gilbert now holds 15 while Cadet Warrant Officer Russell came away with her 10th, an extremely credible feat for the two of them.
