134 (Bedford) Squadron |
On Monday the 24th of September, Ready Steady Cook, Hells Kitchen, and The
'F' Word, all brought inspiration for one of the most flavoured activity in the
inter-flight competition which is continuing at 134 (Bedford) Squadron.
With Victor Flight versus Vulcan Flight, they were set the task of creating a
menu for a gourmet meal which would 'wow' the the taste buds of food testing
staff using the same equipment used by the civilian committee when the cadets go
away on camp.
The cadets were given a weekend to plan, purchase the
ingredients and prepare a kitchen routine for cadets to get the clean hands
dirty making all manner of dishes, from cheese cake (without the cheese!) to a
delicious soup.
With 45 minutes to make the food into a presentable state, cadets chopped,
sliced, sizzled and mixed all their ingredients into a dish that would make even
Gordon Ramsey happy.
With menus set, tables laid and the drink poured, the staff sat down to taste
some of the fine cuisine produced by Blue (Victor) team and Red (Vulcan) team.
After a long tense period of the staff 'enjoying' the food, the
cadets were given the chance to taste their own creations, then set about
tidying up their improvised kitchens!
On final parade Flt Lt Mark Robinson announced the marks awarded for
presentation, most outrages master chef, organised kitchen and best tasting
food. the victors of the cook off were finally announced as the Vulcan Flight.
After the evenings activities cadet Every said 'it was something completely
different, which made us all think differently, but was fun to do, and to taste
at the end!'
