Up ‘Four’ It

In its 50th anniversary year, the prestigious Wing Drill Trophy was won for the fourth year in a row by a team of 13 cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron Air Cadets.

Competing against 28 other teams from all over Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire the cadets from Bedford performed 52 separate drill movements with a degree of precision and accuracy that reflected the many hours the team spent training for this hotly contested trophy.

The cadets aged from 13 to 19 were led to success once again by Corporal Sean Denham (16 years). Sean led the team to victory in 2006 and will now go on to lead the team at the regional drill competition that will be held at Royal Air Force Wittering, Cambridgeshire in September.

The current Wing Drill Trophy was introduced in 1957 and since its inception has been won by the cadets of 134 (Bedford) Squadron on seven occasions, 1963, 1968, 1969, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. History has been made this year in that no squadron has ever won the trophy for four years in a row.

Warrant Officer Taylor who trained the team said, “Teamwork, discipline, pride, hard work and the will to win marks out these remarkable young people as winners. I am proud of them and their achievements. They are truly remarkable.”
