Adventure Park

Ampthill Park, Bedfordshire, was chosen as the ideal location to hold a three-day adventure training camp for 15 Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron.

The Park is a nationally important historic site: Henry VIII hunted here 400 years ago and the landscape enjoy today was partly created by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown in the 18th Century. During the Great War 1914 - 1918 the Park was used as an army training camp. Immediately after the Second World War the Park accommodated a Prisoner of war camp.

Having set up a large tented camp within the parks grounds on Friday 11th May 2007, they embarked on a weekend of adventure training that included orienteering, pioneering, leadership exercises, first aid, aircraft recognition and two night exercises.

The weekend was designed to sharpen the skills of the cadets and to allow them to prepare for the Wing Field Day in June of this year.

Supporting the camp were members of the Squadrons Civilian Committee who provided hot meals and refreshments throughout the weekend from a field kitchen located under a parachute tepee.

Despite heavy rainfall throughout the weekend moral was not dampened and the weekend was deemed to be a complete success by all those who attended.

Adult Warrant Officer Taylor who coordinated the weekend said, “Despite some adverse weather conditions we had an excellent weekend with some quality training being delivered to the cadets.”
