134 (Bedford) Squadron |
The cadets of 134 (Bedford) Squadron recently claimed third place in the Wing
Athletics competition, where they competed against the thirty squadrons in
Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
The cadets competed in all elements of athletics, from long jump to long
distance running on Sunday 22nd April 2007, at the traditional venue of Bedford
International Athletics Stadium.
The determination, effort and high morale of Bedford Squadron was clear to
see at all times, from the early birds who set up the catering for the event,
once again courtesy of the squadron’s Civilian Committee members, to the latest
leavers, who dismantled the catering tent.
Several cadets will now go on to represent the Wing at Regional level in their
events, after winning on Sunday.
In addition to plenty of drive, there were plenty of medals to be seen as well
amongst the Bedford cadets. The following cadets earned medals at the event:
Gold:
Cdt Gilbert, High Jump
Cpl Denham, 1500m

Overall, there was an excellent effort put in by all members of the squadron on
the day, whether on the track, or on the field, or on the side encouraging the
competitors, and by the members of the Civilian Committee who did an excellent
job of raising over £500 for squadron funds through providing some delicious
catering on the day.
Cadet Gabriella Soroko, 15, said of the event, ‘I thoroughly enjoyed the
athletics today; it’s exciting to compete against the rest of the wing, and to
do so well at the end of it all.’
Flight Lieutenant Mark Robinson, Commanding Officer 134 (Bedford) Squadron, said
‘Well done to all those that participated, and especially everybody who won
medals today. Everyone that I saw compete put in their all, and coming third
overall is an excellent result, justly deserved by a very good team.’
