Three air cadets from Bedford took control of an aircraft for the very first time last weekend, and had the time of their life.
The cadets, Cadets Joseph Airton, , Emma O’Keeffe, 15, and Nathan Mead, 14, took a trip to the Air Experience Flight at RAF Wyton on Sunday 28th January along with nine other local cadets.
At RAF Wyton, air cadets regularly get their first taste of controlling an aircraft, sitting in the captain’s seat of a two-seater plane called a Tutor next to an experienced RAF pilot, while learning how to pilot the plane.
The Air Cadet Organisation funds thousands of hours flying every year for cadets, from Air experience flying, to Flying Scholarships, and a few Private Pilots Licences. The activity is entirely free for the cadets, however, as the RAF pays for all flying for air cadets.
Cadet Nathan Mead, 14, said of the day, ‘I loved it, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done, and I can’t wait to go again!’
Flying is just one of the many exciting opportunities available to cadets in the Air Training Corps. Bedford Squadron is currently recruiting new cadets and staff members, anyone interested in joining this successful team should contact us via our website: www.134.org.uk
