Evening All

Bedfordshire Police Chief Constable Gillian Parker, QPM, BSc (Hons), MSt (Cantab) dropped in to make enquiries with the cadets of 134 (Bedford) Squadron, to find out what happens on a typical evening.

After first reviewing the cadets, Mrs Parker was taken by FS Esther Russell on a guided tour of the squadron headquarters, where she was introduced to the staff and cadets. The squadron demonstrated many of its activities from cadets crossing a rope bridge to weapons training with the L98 A1 cadet rifle.

After the tour of the building, Mrs Parker was shown the squadron video before the cadets were given the opportunity to speak to the Chief Constable in a question and answer session.

It is the first time in the history of the squadron that the serving Chief Constable has visited the squadron. Flt Lt Mark Robinson said of the evening “It is great for the cadets to get the chance to meet and speak to a local role model. We have had several cadets join the police service in the past and we are keen to promote all the uniformed organisations both military and civilian”.

To mark the occasion Mrs Parker was presented with a 134 (Bedford) Squadron plaque. On completion of her visit, Mrs Parker said she was extremely impressed with the self confidence that the cadets demonstrated to her.
