On Thursday 14th September 2006, cadets from the 134 Bedford Squadron revisited the Battle of Britain by taking part in their very own game shown titled, Sealion or Surrender.
The evening commenced with a brief review of the battle of Britain presented by Adult Warrant Officer Taylor, the training officer assigned to run the evening’s event. Following the informative briefing the cadets moved on to participate in the game.
Based on the popular Channel 4 game show hosted by Noel Edmonds, Deal or No Deal, 22 cadets were asked to collect boxes containing a number cards representing the Royal Air Force and Luftwaffe. The cards were in the form of aircraft squadrons, fuel, ammunition, pilots, airfields, radar masts, control rooms and famous personalities from the battle.
Cadet Peter Clough was selected to be the player of the game, which was hosted by Cadet Flight sergeant Antoni Otoulakowski.
AWO Taylor said at the conclusion of the evening, “Using this format to deliver training to the cadets about this important period in our history has been a huge success and I am really pleased with the results.”
The squadron will be holding a further themed evening in October when they look at the history of the Cold War.
