Fledgling Fliers

On Sunday 3rd September 2006, 10 cadets from the 134 Bedford Squadron visited 5 Air Experience Flight at RAF Wyton Cambridgeshire for Air Experience Flying.

Having watched a flight safety video the Cadets were kitted up in flying suits, helmets and parachutes and embarked on a busy mornings flying.

All of the cadets flew in Grob Tutor T1 aircraft and for 7 of the 10 it was their very first flight in an aircraft with the Air Cadets. Most of the sorties lasted for approximately 30 minutes during which the cadets were allowed to take control of the aircraft and experience aerobatic manoeuvres such as barrel rolls and loops.

Speaking about his experience Cadet Jake Forsythe, 13 years said, “It was fantastic, the best thing I have ever done in my life.”

Cadets from the squadron take to the sky again on the 17th September when they return to RAF Wyton for their next flying allocation.
The Grob Tutor T1 replaced the Royal Air Force's fleet of Bulldog primary training aircraft from 1999 onwards. Ninety of the new aircraft are used by University Air Squadrons and Air Experience Flights at 14 locations around the country.
