134 (Bedford) Squadron |
On Sunday the 20th August 2006, a team from 134 (Bedford) Squadron set out to RAF Henlow to take part in the wing modelling and aircraft recognition competitions. There were three entries for the modelling competition from CDT Rose, CDT Pickering and Cpl Bubbins. Although CDT Rose was unable to attend the event his model was displayed for him by the team. The team that took part in the aircraft recognition was CDT Airton, Cpl Bubbins, CDT Pickering and Cpl Tye.

After the models had been set up and given a brushing over to get them looking their best, the judging commenced. In the mean time, the representatives from the squadron took part in the aircraft recognition test. A mixture of 33 military and civilian aircraft were shown to us and despite our training and preparation, it still left the team puzzled and struggling to find some of the answers! But we did our best.
Once all of the teams had passed through the aircraft recognition test, we formed up for the final parade and waited in anticipation for the results. Unfortunately, CDT Rose and Cpl Bubbins’ model entries did not achieve the top three medal places, and despite our best efforts in the air recognition we were not successful this year. But, for the third year running, CDT Pickering won in the regional single kit entry with his model of a Sea Harrier FA2. He will now be representing Beds and Cambs Wing for the 3rd year in succession for this modelling class at regional field day at RAF Wittering on September 3rd.
