Press Release |
134 (Bedford) Squadron |
In a little under three years 134 (Bedford) Squadron will be 70 years old. The squadron has started preparation to release a book of the squadron’s history to mark the occasion.
134 squadron was officially formed at an Air Defence Cadet Corps Squadron on the 2nd June 1939. We originally met in a hut down Ampthill Road, on the County School site, where Box Clever now stands. In 1941, all Air Defence Cadet Corps squadrons were reformed as Air Training Corps Squadrons.
We are looking for any ex-members of 134 to make contact with us, to help build up a collection of interesting anecdotes and photos. To mark the start of this project, the history section of the Sqn website www.134.org.uk has had a major redesign and there will be more being added all the time.

Anniversary Parade 1940
In the past, major anniversaries of the squadron have been marked in similar style. In 1989 at the 50th Anniversary we held an international air show by the Cardington Airship Sheds. When the squadron was 60 in 1999 we were awarded the freedom of Bedford Borough.
Chris Wiggins, Squadron archivist said “There must be thousands of stories out there spanning the last 70 years, It would be fantastic to make a permanent record of them for future cadets to read.”
So if you were, or know anyone that was a former member of 134 (Bedford) Squadron, then please get in touch with us via our website www.134.org.uk, and share your memories with us.
