Many may have thought that following all the intensive training that took place before the Wing Field Day, 134 (Bedford) Squadron would be taking life easy. How wrong they are. The Squadron has reformed Hawk and Tucano flights and the Cadets have been evenly distributed between them.

The flights are commanded by Sergeant Michael Every (Hawk Flight) and Sergeant Alex Scully (Tucano Flight) and they will be taking part in a series of inter flight competitions between July and September.

Each and every parade evening the Squadron Warrant Officer formally inspects the Cadets and points are awarded for the turnout and presentation of each flight.

To mark the start of the inter flight competition both teams have competed in a timed raft building exercise held within the Squadron grounds. This exercise tested the team’s knots and lashings knowledge and will be put to good use later in the year when the teams take to the water for a raft race at Priory Marina in Bedford.

The first flight competition gets underway

Many more activities are planned which include a drill competition, leadership exercises and aircraft recognition test.

AWO Taylor said following the formation of the two flights, “Building on the success of the field day we recognised the importance of training all our Cadets to the highest standards possible. The interflight competition will ensure that we keep our Cadets busy throughout the remainder of the summer and provide them with some meaningful training.”
