On the 10th and 11th of June 22 cadets and 2 staff members from 134 (Bedford) Squadron deployed to Old Warden for the annual Moth Club meet.
Saturday morning cadets arrived ready to help and after a short briefing on the day and the safety aspects, the cadets were keen to get to work. However due to the high wind levels throughout the day sadly all flying was suspended for the day.
After the disappointing news the cadets made the most of the days sun. With the aircraft grounded all the cadets maximised on the opportunity by having educational tour of the museum by FS Russell and FS Otulakowski.
Sunday morning the cadets where re-briefed and the weather looked promising. The cadets and staff had been given their work with duties for the day which involved chaperoning the customers and sponsors to a from the aircraft on the airfield and ensuring all the correct paperwork was filled out and processed correctly. At a significantly lower wind speed and a burning hot sun the day was set and the work had begun. The day flew by with both time and aircraft and by 5pm the cadets had facilitated over 170 flights the day was a complete success in the 30 degrees centigrade heat. The cadets and staff where also lucky enough to get flights throughout the day in some of the Moth Clubs many historic aircraft ranging from the classic Tiger Moth to a Dragon and a DH 85 Leopard Moth.
Flt Lt Robinson commented "On a very hot day the cadets preformed fantastically, all worked extremely hard and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day"
