Having selected the 2006 Field Team in March of this year through an intensive selection weekend, preparations are well underway to train the team of 16 cadets to succeed in the Wing Adventure Training Day to be held at RAF Wyton, Cambridgeshire, on 24th and 25th June.
In June 2005, the Squadron won the prestigious Field Day and Drill trophies and is looking forward to defending these in this year’s competition.
On Monday 1st May, whilst most people enjoyed the bank holiday break, 11 Cadets from the Squadron’s Field Team completed the third of a series of training days aimed at honing their skills to perfection.
The day commenced with drill team training on the drill square at DISC Chickands. This was followed by a vigorous physical training session held in Chicksands Woods, which involved the whole team, including AWO Taylor, undertaking an arduous cross-country run.
Having completed the Chicksands phase of the day the cadets returned to the Squadron Headquarters where they undertook a serious of complex command tasks designed to test their understanding of functional leadership, recognising the needs of the team, task and individual.
AWO Taylor, Squadron Warrant Officer said, “This has been a tough day for the Cadets both physically and mentally but they have risen to the challenge in true Bedford style. I am pleased to see that they are well led, trained and motivated to succeed in this year’s competition”.
There will be no let off in the intensive training schedule as the team are attending a demanding weekend Field Team Training Camp in two weeks time to be held at a secret location in Bedfordshire. During this weekend the final team will be selected and reserves nominated.
