Two cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron, Air Cadets have volunteered to take part in an international archival program aimed at ensuring that the memory of the fallen soldiers can never fade.
The task, which is coordinated by the British War Memorial Project has the aim of creating an online photo album of the graves of British servicemen and women from 1914 to the present day. This is no small task, across the world there are 2.4 million British war graves, 350,000 of which are located in the United Kingdom. This album will be accessible at www.wargraves.org.uk
Corporal Ryan Bubbins and Corporal James Tye have volunteered to photograph the 27 war graves and the war memorial from Cardington cemetery in order to assist in completing the archive.
When finished, the project will comprise of pictures from nearly every town and village in the country. The task for Bedford cadets will commence shortly and we hope that our small contribution will complete one piece in the massive international jigsaw.
The squadron CO remarked “it is a great opportunity for the cadets at this squadron to participate in an international project, as well as giving them a chance to learn about the individuals that fought for our nation. I want to congratulate them for taking the project on!”
