Weapons at the Weekend

The cadets of 134 (Bedford) Squadron Air Training Corps this weekend were trained on the No.8 .22 calibre rifle and L98 A1 cadet 5.56 calibre rifle. For many the two days were a chance to re-qualify for the use of the weapons, as this is required every six months, while for some it was vital first time training.

It was an 0830hrs start on both days, and the cadets were anxious to start training. The lessons were on going all throughout the weekend; group training sessions and one-on-ones for those who just wanted to make sure, with tests continuing throughout the day. For the L98 A1 cadet rifle, there is minimum requirement of 16 hours training before even passing the Weapons Handling Test, which is why the whole weekend was devoted to weapons training.

The weekend was a productive and an excellent learning experience with 22 cadets passing the all important Weapons Handling Tests. The two days form part of Bedford Squadron’s pre-deployment training for Easter Camp.
