Match Report - Inter Wing Hockey

On 19th February 2006, three cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron took part in the inter-wing semi-finals hockey tournament, FS Russell, Cdt Ward and Cdt Gilbert. The match took place at RAF Wittering, the match was played against Norfolk and Suffolk.

The match started quite well, with our cadets representing Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing team, leading 3-1, in the 1st half. It was then into the 2nd half when the drama started; Norfolk and Suffolk came back with a goal, then Beds and Cambs came back a wonderful goal. Norfolk and Suffolk came back up to 4 – 4. Then Beds and Cambs started to look strong with a 5 – 4 win, then in the last five minutes Norfolk and Suffolk once again drew level with five goals each. It then looked like the end when Norfolk and Suffolk came back with another goal in the last two minutes, however it was disallowed due to body contact. 

The match then went on to extra time, where the teams had ten minutes to try and claw their way to a win. Neither of the teams scored a goal. So the match went to penalty shoot outs. 

Our team finished off an excellent game 9 – 5. 

Cdt Ward and Cdt Gilbert said, ‘All the team played excellently and it was a great day out.’

‘All three girls earned a Wing Blue for representing Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing, bringing the total acquired by the squadron during the first six weeks of the year to seven blues.’
