On Saturday 3rd December 2005, Cadets, Staff and Civilian Committee members from 134 (Bedford) Squadron commenced the second phase of the Autoglym Cadet Charity Car Wash.
Working within the grounds of Bedford College in Bedford Town Centre the Cadets deployed in force in their continuing efforts to raise much needed funds in order that they can replace the aging Squadron minibus.
Despite poor weather the Cadets were soon busy washing cars and offering a ‘Shop and wash’ service to users of the public car parks. Trade increased significantly when Chiltern FM radio sent the Black Thunder crew to the event and whilst the Cadets washed the Black Thunder the Chiltern crew broadcast live to air advertising the car wash and the work of the Cadets.
At the end of the day with the light fading and the last car washed it was time to review the days takings and pack away the buckets and sponges. In total the Cadets successfully raised £450.
Event organiser Adult Warrant Officer Taylor said, “Despite poor conditions and an unfamiliar location the team worked and we have raised a significant amount of money, raised our profile with the public and had a great deal of fun.”
The buckets will not be empty for long as the Cadets commence phase 3 of the Autoglym Cadet Charity Car Wash on Saturday 10th December 2005, when they return to the Squadron Headquarters located on the busy A600 at Shortstown for another intensive day of car washing.
