Runaway Success

On Sunday 20th November 2005, 15 Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron Air Training Corps took part in the Wing Cross Country competition held at Bassingbourne Barracks, Cambridgeshire.

On a perfect day for cross country running, blue clear skies and frosty ground, the Cadets put their weeks of practice at Chicksands Woods to good use. Up for grabs were the Junior and Youth boy’s team events and the Junior Girls team event.

Displaying their usual levels of enthusiasm the team displayed early success when Cadets Sean Denham and Agabo Malayan came first and second in the junior boys event. Other notable successes were recorded with Corporal Alex Scully coming third in the boys youth race, Cadet Rebecca Ward coming second in the senior girls race and Sergeant Antoni Otulakowski securing a hard fought second place in the senior boys competition.

During the final parade and awards ceremony the Squadron won three team trophies, which were The Boys Junior trophy (4th year in a row), Boys Youth trophy (2nd year in a row) and the Junior Girls trophy (2nd year in a row). As for medals between the team there were awarded 13 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.

Adult Officer P Taylor, said, “It’s a brilliant result achieved through some fantastic team and individual performances. To win three trophies and for each team member to secure a medal is testament to the quality of our young people and their determination to win, I cannot praise them enough.”
