On Saturday 19th November 2005, 20 Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron Air Training Corps took part in the Autoglym Cadet Charity Car Wash to raise funds to replace the Squadron's ageing minibus.
On what was one of the coldest days of the year so far, (minus 4 at 0800 hours) the Cadets assembled at the Squadrons Headquarter's building in Shortstown, Bedfordshire, where they were instructed in the finer arts of car washing. Confident that they had been suitably trained Adult Officer Taylor who organised the event allowed his car to be cleaned first.
The Squadron is holding a series of car washing events in and around the local area and was fortunate in securing sponsorship from Autoglym Limited manufactures of quality car cleaning products and suppliers to Her Majesty the Queen and the Prince of Wales.
In brilliant sunshine the event was very well received and the Cadets cleaned over 100 cars in less than 8 hours raising £500.
Adult Officer Taylor, the Squadron Warrant Officer said, “Despite being bitterly cold the Cadets have worked like Trojans and through teamwork and their sheer enthusiasm they have raised a great deal of money. We received many complimentary remarks from our customers and have succeeded in raising the profile of the Air Cadets within the local community.”
The cleaning buckets are out again in force at Bedford College on the 3rd December 2005 where the Cadets will be holding their second Autoglym Cadet Charity Car Wash event.
