On Saturday 15th October 2005, 12 Cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron took part in one of the busiest Squadron Training Days held in recent times.
At 08.00 hours the Cadets assembled at the Defence Intelligence and Security Centre at Chicksands, Bedfordshire where they tackled the Army’s arduous Confidence Course. In somewhat foggy conditions and under the supervision of a trained army Physical Training Instructor the Cadets negotiated rope swings, monkey bars and brick walls in timed individual and team races.
Having spent an hour and a half on the Confidence Course it was off to the 50 metres Barrack Range where the Cadets spent the rest of the day practicing their individual marksmanship skills using the No 8 (0.22) and L98 A1 (5.56) rifles.
For many of the Cadets this was their first experience of shooting having only the weekend before graduated from the Weapons Training Weekend held at the Squadron.
The Civilian Committee who having served up a sumptuous meal to the Cadets went on to take part in the shooting to experience for themselves the operational side of Squadron life.
Adult Warrant Officer Taylor who organised the Training Day said, “Traditionally as the year draws to a close activities slow down on many Squadron’s. Not the case here, we have an on going need to deliver interesting and meaningful training to our Cadets and a day like this is action packed form the start to finish. This has been a thorough success and we will be repeating the day in the near future.”
