134 (Bedford) Squadron |
Over the weekend of the 11th and 12th June 2005, 22 Cadets and Staff from 134 (Bedford) Squadron provided logistical support to the Star Rowing Club in Bedford during their annual Rowing Regatta on the River Great Ouse
The Races Started under the Famous Suspension Bridge
The Star Club traces it’s origins back to the 1950’s when it was the RAF Cardington rowing club so the link to the Air Cadets seems appropriate especially when 134 (Bedford) Squadron is sited at the former RAF Cardington site.
Each year the Star Club holds a Regatta inviting teams from all over the country to take part in two full days of racing on the River Great Ouse in the centre of Bedford.
This is the third year running that the Star Club have called upon the expertise of the Air Cadets and the Squadron was deployed on a variety of tasks. These included staffing the stake boat at the start of the race, timekeeping, marshalling boats and logistical support.
Cadets acted as Starting Marshall's for the Race
AWO Taylor who was in charge of the weekend deployment said, “This is a great weekend, we are recognised by the Star Club as a professional team who are vital in ensuring the success of the weekend. Our cadets are regularly praised for their enthusiasm and disciplined approach to their duties.”
