New Addition to the Fleet

The push bike has long been the favoured transport for many air force personnel and a visit to an RAF station will often prove that even in the age of the Eurofighter Typhoon this traditional two wheel method of transport is as popular as ever.

With tradition in mind CWO Croft of 134 (Bedford) Squadron has, over the past few months been restoring an un-used mountain bike for use as squadron transport.  The bike has been finished in gloss black as used by the RAF for its training aircraft.  With assistance from various members of the squadron, CWO croft stripped the bike down and commenced a complete rebuild which included a full re-spray of the frame.

AWO Browne then jumped in to assist with the graphics, which included the red clenched gauntlet, the emblem of 134 Sqn on the front and red/white/blue flashes on the rear of the frame.  Also applied were a set of black and white photo calibration markings, these are applied to aircraft when they undergo testing and allow accurate measurements to be taken during test sorties.

Although the bike has successfully made it into service it is not without delay. RAF procurement projects often experience delays due to unforeseen circumstances and the bike has been no exception.  However it is now in full operational use and that’s what really matters.
