Squadron Cleans Up For Second Year Running

For the second year running 134 (Bedford) Squadron has been judged as having the best maintained premises in East Anglia.

The award, which is made by the East Anglia branch of the Reserve Forces and Cadet Association (RFCA) takes into account the condition, cleanliness and presentation of the building and the surrounding grounds. This achievement is even more significant when you consider the fact that the building has been placed on the care and maintenance list (meaning only essential maintenance work is carried out by RFCA) and is due to be demolished.

134 (Bedford) Squadron is adjacent to the main gate of the former RAF Cardington site; which is currently being cleared in preparation for a new housing development. It is hoped that the squadron will in the near future be relocated to a new purpose built Cadet Centre in the shadow of the famous Cardington Airship Sheds which dominate the local skyline. However, this is still some way off and negotiations continue with the developers of the site.

In the meantime hard work by both cadets and staff ensures that standards are maintained and the image of the Air Cadets is well presented to the general public

Adult Warrant Officer Taylor said, “Everyone in the squadron takes pride in our headquarters building and we all work very hard to maintain the highest standards. To win the award for the second year in a row is testament to all our efforts and we aim to win again in 2005.”
