134 (Bedford) Squadron |
Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire Wing, Western Sector held a parade through the village of Oakley on the 6th February 2005 to mark ATC Sunday, the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the formation of the Air Training Corps.
For some members of the squadron the day started well before 1300Hrs muster with an 1130hrs departure from our Shortstown HQ, this included the Banner Bearer, Cdt O Ward, who was required for a rehearsal and Sgt Russell with Cpl Every who made up a works party to tidy up the area around the Dais position.
2462 (Oakley) Sqn hosted the parade but called upon the experience of AWO Taylor from 134 (Bedford) Sqn to act as the Parade Warrant Officer with AWO Browne and CWO Croft acting under him as Flight NCOs.
Along with five of the other squadrons in the sector cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron formed a two-flight escort for the banners of those squadrons represented. The parade, which was led by the band of 2500 (St Neots) Sqn set off from Oakley village hall at 1330hrs and marched the short distance from the hall to St Mary’s church for a 40 minute service concentrated on the Air Cadet Organisation.
The mach back to the Village hall included a salute, which was taken by Sqn Ldr Testro, Wing Staff Officer for the Western Sector. Sqn Ldr Testro then made his way to the muster point to dismiss the parade where he took time to thank all involved. AWO Taylor joined him in his praise, commenting "It was great to see so many Cadets turn out to mark Air Cadet Sunday in such a special way demonstrating that we can still be proud of our young people."
The day was rounded off with a chance to talk to members of other squadrons in the sector over welcome refreshments, provided by the Oakley civilian committee.
