Uniform

Uniform - Standard Dress

Beret. (issued)
The beret is to be worn so that the band is horizontal round the head. 25 mm above the eyebrow. The loose material of the crown is to be drawn down to the right side and the badge clearly displayed in a position above the left eye. The Beret should be clean.

Jersey (issued)
Blue-grey RAF Jersey, clean and pressed 

Trousers/Skirt. (issued)
RAF No 2 dress trousers, to be worn with blue-grey supporting belt, clean and pressed with individual creases front and back, on each leg. running straight, from top pleat to base of trouser leg
or RAF No 2 dress skirt for female cadets, clean and pressed

Shirt. (issued)
Dark, working blue shirt, with no tie; the collar of the shirt is to be worn outside the jersey; the top button of the shirt being undone. Clean and pressed

Each cadet is also issued with a Wedgewood blue shirt and black tie, which is worn on formal occasions as instructed by the Squadron Commander

Brassard (issued)
A brassard for badges is worn on the upper right arm. clean and pressed

Badges

Badges of Rank. Cpl, Sgt, FS and CWO badges are to be worn on the shoulder straps of either the jersey or the shirt, depending on the mode of dress.

Flying Scholarship, Cadet Navigator, Microlight and Gliding Badges. Flying and Gliding badges are to be worn on the left shoulder patch of the jersey (from the viewpoint of the wearer), as follows:
a. When more than one badge is authorised, the Flying Scholarship, Cadet Navigator badge or the microlight badge is worn centrally 1 cm above the Gliding badge, the bottom edge of which is to be worn 1cm above the lower edge of the patch.
b. When only one of these badges is worn, it is to be worn centrally, 1 cm above the lower edge of the patch.

Millennium Volunteers and Duke of Edinburgh Badges: If only one of these has been awarded, it is worn centrally on the right shoulder patch of the jersey (from the viewpoint of the wearer), the base of the badge is 1 cm above the lower edge of the shoulder patch.

If both a MV badge and a D of E Badge has been awarded, they are both positioned 1 cm above the lower edge of the batch and 1cm apart. with the MV closest to the shoulder.

NB. Only one D of E badge is worn at a time: eg. when the Silver is gained, the Bronze is taken down and replaced with the Silver.

Shirtsleeve Order. 

In summer, 1 May - 30 Sep (as directed by the Squadron Commander)

  • Shirt worn with the top button undone and the sleeves rolled up neatly above the elbows.
  • No tie is worn.
  • Badges of rank are worn on the shoulder straps of the shirt.
  • The brassard is worn with appropriate badges. Staff Cadets wear the lanyard around the left shoulder, as usual, and button the end to the button of the left breast-pocket of the shirt.
  • Flying Scholarship, Cadet Navigator, Gliding and Duke of Edinburgh’s (D of E) Award badges are not worn.
