Air Power

18th July 2016

On Sunday the 10th July, cadets from 134 Squadron went to the Royal International Air Tattoo with three cadets from 2331 (St Ives) Squadron.
It was an early start arriving at the Squadron for 07:00, but the cadets where in high spirits about going to the airshow in Gloucestershire.
Arriving 40 minutes ahead of the scheduled time, the cadets enjoyed some time before the displays where due to begin, however a short shower and low cloud base cancelled the first few displays of the day. Flying started shortly after 11:00 and the displays that followed where amazing to watch, as the worlds military pilots showed the power and capabilities of the aircraft in which they fly. Displays throughout the day included the Royal Navy Black Cats with their Augusta Westland Wildcat HMA2, Hellenic (Greek) Air Forces F-16 Fighting Falcon and the United States Air Force showed their some of their air power with a display from the Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.
The cadets had time in the day to speak with the crew and support staff of the aircraft on the static displays and even had the opportunity to go inside a few of the aircraft, including a Pakistan C-130 Hercules, German Air Force Airbus A400M Atlas and a Royal Jordanian Air Force C-130 Hercules, UK based United States Air Force Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker (Air to Air Refueler) to say of a few of the aircraft.
Apart from the odd shower during the day it was a rather warm day and enjoyed by all cadets and staff of 134 and 2331 Squadrons.
Next year we are planning on going again and hope that many more cadets show interest of what the airshow has to offer.
