Shooting Success

Despite cold temperatures, Air Cadets from 134 (Bedford), 1220 (March) and 2331 (St Ives) Squadrons enjoyed another successful day on the range honing their marksmanship abilities.

The cadets, all highly trained on the L98 A2 Cadet General Purpose Rifle, practiced a range of disciplines at 25 metres. Groupings, rapid fire, snap and deliberate applications were practiced throughout the morning.

For two talented Marksman, Flight Sergeant Luke Denham, 18 yrs and Sergeant Nathan Turpin, 16 yrs, both after warming their barrels achieved a Regional Marksmanship Qualification.

For Corporal Levi Jack, 16 yrs, everything was in place for early success. Firing in the prone position at four separate targets under competition conditions, he was able to secure a coveted Corps Marksmanship Qualification through some very precise shooting. This was just hours after being awarded the Shooting Trophy for 2014 at the Squadrons Annual Awards Evening.

Overall, the cadets performed magnificently in the conditions, with three other experienced shooters re qualifying as Squadron and Wing Marksmen.

Flight Sergeant James Tye said, “What a great way to end our shooting season for the year. The hard work and concentration paid off for those who achieved their marksmanship qualifications. Planning for next years ranges is already underway and we hope to achieve many more marksman qualifications.”
