Over 150 guests attended the Squadron’s prestigious Annual Awards Evening held at the Defence Intelligence Security Centre, Chicksands, Bedfordshire on Friday 11th December 2009.

Cadets and staff entertained the audience with a series of live sketches and video presentations detailing memorable events of the year, highlighting the unit’s successes and celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Squadron.

Following the show, the evening switched to the formal presentation of awards.

The Commanding Officer’s Shield was presented to Cadet Tiffany Cotton, 14 yrs, for her outstanding contributions to the Squadron during the year.

The Academic Shield went to Cpl Jonathan Bell, 14 yrs, who achieved the highest academic results in the cadet examinations taken in March.

The Marksmanship Trophy was presented to FS Sean Denham, 18 yrs, following his success in the Squadron shooting competition held earlier in the year.

The Communications Trophy was awarded to Cpl Jonathan Bell, 14 yrs, in recognition of him taking some excellent photographs of Squadron activities during the year and his production of a flying video that features on the unit’s website.

The Modelling Trophy went to Cdt Alex Harrison, 14 yrs, who successfully entered a Typhoon model aircraft in the Squadron modelling competition.

In addition to the trophies and shield, Commanding Officer’s Commendations were awarded to Cdts Daniel O’Neale, 14 yrs, and Peter Roberts, 16 yrs, for their endeavours and contributions to the Squadron throughout the year.

Commendations were also presented to each and every member of the unit’s 2009 Drill Team who, in June, won the Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing Drill Competition for an unprecedented sixth year in a row.

As a reward for being the Cadet of the Year, Cpl Every will be spending a day with 702 Naval Air Squadron based at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton, where he will get the opportunity to fly in a Lynx helicopter; a prize most suited to his future aspirations of becoming a helicopter pilot in the Fleet Air Arm.

Flying Officer Paul Nelson, Officer Commanding Bedford Squadron said of the evenings events, “"This was my first 134 Squadron Awards Evening and I have to say how impressed I was by the hard work and dedication shown by the cadets and staff members to make the evening such a resounding success. This evening has always been aimed at informing the cadets' parents, guardians and supporters as to the previous year's events and activities and to celebrate the success of the cadets in winning the Squadron Awards. I would like to thank all the parents and guardians for the help and support that they have given the Squadron and hope that they will continue to do so in the future. I would also like to thank our honoured guests for arranging their busy schedules such that they could attend, enjoy the evening and present the prizes. I am very much looking forward to Awards Evening 2010 where the Squadron can once again shine under the spot lights of achievement and success. "
